Ghana International Airlines flies to London (Gatwick) at least four (4) times weekly from Accra Kotoka International Airport.

Hand Baggage Allowance To Accra -Economy Class :

You are allowed to carry one piece of hand luggage onto the plane. This must be able to fit under the seat in front of you, which means it must not be larger than 23cm x 36cm x 56cm (9in x 14in x 22 in) and should not weigh more than 8kg (18lbs).Economy Class passengers are allowed two pieces of luggage per passenger, each weighing up to 23kg (50lbs).One piece 8kg (18lbs) in total.

Baggage Allowance To accra-Infant Traveller :

Infants not entitled to a seat are entitled to one piece of checked baggage weighing no more than 10 kg and with dimensions of 9 x 14 x 22 ins. They are also entitled to one piece of hand luggage weighing no more than 6kg. This is over and above the buggy or bassinet or car seat, which are carried free of charge.

  • If you go to Accra with your family, your best bet is the beach. Plenty of water sports, fishing, beach activities and swimming will ensure enjoyment for all the family. A downside is the presence of many sellers and beggars, so keep an eye on the kids.  Additionally, the undertoe can be very dangerous; many strong adults die each year in the Ghana surf.  Swimmers should also be advised that the beaches near Accra are quite polluted, with run-off, sewage and litter.  It is best to travel at least an hour away from Accra to avoid this.

    There is a range of beaches that you can choose from, specially the ones located between Accra and Cape Coast. Ada-Paradise Beach and La Pleasure Beach are two of the most popular beaches with plenty of water sports and you can also fish. A more manicured beach tailored for the international tourist is Next Door Beach Resort.

    If you prefer an environment less touched by “civilization” and more natural, go to the Beaches of the Central Region, the beaches of the Western Region, Cocoloco Beach and Alaska Beach. If you want to get in touch with the locals and have a taste of real Ghana, go to White Sands Resort, near a fishing and farming community.

    If you want your family to have a different experience of Ghana, try one of the many, many parks that will introduce you to the magic of Africa: Kakum National Park (a wildlife reserve with 7 primate species, 40 species of mammals and 250 species of birds. You walk in the forest sometimes on rope bridges accompanied by guides); Aburi Botanical Gardens (you can dine and stay at their lodging facilities); Boabeng-Fiema Sanctuary (the home to Geoffrey’s Pied Columbus and Campbell's Mona Monkeys); and Bui National Parks (here, antelopes and hippotamus reign).

The Ghana International Airlines (GIA) is the national airline of the Republic of Ghana, with its head office in the Silver Star Tower in Airport City, Kotoka International Airport, Accra. It operates scheduled and charter passenger and cargo services. Its main base is Kotoka International Airport, Accra.

The airline was set up in 2004 as a partnership between the Government of Ghana and a group of private international investors. A team of executives led by Ralph Atkin, founder of SkyWest Airlines in the United States was installed, which also included Brian Presbury, the former CEO of Kenya Airways.

Ghana International Airlines commenced operations on 29 October 2005 with daily flights between Accra and London Gatwick Airport using a Boeing 757 wet leased from Ryan International Airlines. The airline commenced seasonal service to OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, South Africa in 2006. Flights to Düsseldorf, Germany began in 2008.

It is owned by the Ghanaian government (70%) and US consortium (GIA-USA) (30%) and has 168 employees.

Kotoka International Airport (IATA: ACC, ICAO: DGAA) in Accra, Ghana is the country's most important international air facility and has the capacity for large aircraft such as the Airbus A380. The airport is operated by Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) which was established as a result of the decoupling of the existing Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) in line with the modern trends in the aviation industry.

Measured by passenger traffic and aircraft movements, London Gatwick Airport (IATA: LGW, ICAO: EGKK) is London's second largest international airport and second busiest in the United Kingdom after Heathrow.In 2008, it was the world's 28th-busiest airport in terms of passenger numbers and 9th busiest in terms of international passengers.
